Chemical Compliance Systems (CCS) Tools
Tool Category
Third-party Evaluation Tools
At a Glance
CCS has developed a variety of chemical compliance tools, eight of which help companies and retailers manage chemical ingredients in products. These include tools for alternative chemicals, product design, process design, waste stream greenness, manufacturing process, and assessment across a full lifecycle.

Tool Description
CCS has developed a Relational Chemical and Product Database (R-CPD) of 75 million data elements for 275,000 chemicals. This database with over 700 regulations supplies chemical constituent information to each of the eight tools.
Tools 1, 2, 3 & 4 are web-based systems that utilize 45 ecological, health and safety endpoint criteria to quantitatively score the "greenness" of a chemical product, process, or waste stream on a scale of 0-100%.
- Tool # 1. GC–DDS: "Green" Chemical Data Delivery System: evaluates the "greenness" of individual chemicals and / or alternatives for the intended chemical application (i.e., solvent, acid, base, oxidizer, etc.)
- Tool #2, #3, & #4 combined evaluate the "greenness" of all four stages of the product lifecycle.
- Tool # 2. GP–CAS: "Green" Products Compliance Analytical System: evaluates the regulatory impact of products during design and transportation / usage / storage, and identifies alternative constituents for those that are the least "green."
- Tool # 3. G–PACS: "Green" Process Analytical Compliance System: evaluates the regulatory impact of processes during the manufacture of a product.
- Tool # 4. G–WACS: "Green" Waste Analytical Compliance System: evaluates the regulatory impact of chemical waste streams from product manufacture and / or disposal.
- Tool # 5. G–PEAS: "Green" Process Engineering Compliance Analytical System: measures and normalizes five green engineering factors on a scale of 0-100%, integrating process chemical utilization efficiency, water usage, energy consumption, biobased carbon content, and process safety, with ecological, health and chemical safety across the entire life cycle of a chemical product.
- Tool # 6. COC: Chemicals of Concern: ranks / prioritizes pure or product constituent COCs. The automated, web-based module ranks COCs on the basis of quantities processed, regulatory, ecological, health and safety impacts, overall "concerns," and identifies the Level of Concern (LOC) for each COC.
- Tool # 7. CHEMS: Chemical Hazard and Equivalent Material System: identifies alternative chemicals within generic classes (i.e., solvents acids, etc., and provides ranking/assessment data and "green" scores for all chemicals within the selected class.
- Tool # 8. Integrated Life Cycle Capabilities: Tools #1-5 each evaluate their chemical hazard/risk or engineering factors on a normalized "green" score of 0-100%. This enables the five scores to be evaluated independently or be added to achieve a quantitative lifecycle score of 0-500% that can be used to compare different products.
