Executive Director

Location: Remote (Preference for North America but Europe would be considered)

About The Opportunity
The GC3 is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization's growth, expansion into new areas regions and impact as it enters this new phase. This is a compelling opportunity for a mission-oriented leader with an appetite for building on GC3'S existing legacy of thought leadership, while executing a new strategic plan for expanded scale. The Executive Director will guide GC3 through the implementation of its first, recently completed comprehensive strategic plan, including a reorientation of its program portfolio around a new, innovative concept: the GC3 Commercialization Hub.

The new Executive Director will be a visionary, ambitious leader with strong business acumen and relationship building capabilities. They will be a thought leader or able to steward organizational thought leadership in green chemistry. They will work closely with stakeholders across several industries to accelerate the commercialization and adoption of green chemistry and amplify real change in global supply chains. This unique opportunity is suited for a leader who couples deep sector knowledge in green chemistry, or a closely related field, with experience growing member and stakeholder engagement within a collaborative organization. Further, this leadership role will catalyze the relationship between a Board of Directors composed of industry leaders and public interest advocates, and a dedicated and evolving staff, to build GC3 into a high performance, value-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mission Stewardship: Continuously monitor and evaluate the organizations governance, program offerings, and business model to ensure that they are optimized to deliver on the mission of accelerating commercialization and adoption of green chemistry
  • External Representation: Represent the organization among an increasingly international and diver set of key stakeholders; convene and forge strategic partnerships within the broader green chemistry community, and with corporate members
  • Business Model: Ensure the organization's business and programmatic model are complementary and continuously reinforced while delivering on organizational priorities
  • Financial Sustainability: Oversee and work with the management team to set and meet financial growth targets. Lead management team in identification of new, mission-aligned revenue sources
  • Strategy: Lead the organization's implementation and continuous review of the strategic plan, in partnership with the Board
  • Collaborative Leadership: Build and shape a collaborative culture in support of the organization's mission while hiring and developing the next generation of leaders
  • Membership Value: Oversee and ensure member value delivery and impact achievement, directly and in collaboration with function leaders
  • Board Partnership: Work effectively with a committed Board of Directors, which includes the Founder, serving as the primary liaison with the management Team. Encourage and support continuous Board improvement and enhancement of the Board-Management relationship
Relevant Experience
  • 10+ years in a supervisory leadership position and/or a track record of entrepreneurial success, with recognized achievements in developing, commercializing, and promoting green or sustainable chemistry or analogous field
  • Experience leading the implementation of a strategic plan demonstrating clear results and progress to a Board of Directors
  • Experience collaborating with a Board of Directors to drive alignment on strategic priorities
  • Experience achieving scale and expanding external funding and financial sustainability in early-stage mission-driven, business environments
  • Successful track record leading programs-driven, membership-based, or highly analogous organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience leading diverse industry stakeholders toward aligned objectives in environmental or highly analogous sectors
  • Successful track record of garnering commitments and motivating action from commercial interests, in support of major environmental or sustainability-related initiatives
  • Capable of building collaboration and alignment across public, private, and social sectors

Program Director

Location: Remote (Preference for North America but Europe would be considered)

About The Opportunity
The GC3 seeks a seasoned Program Director to coordinate and ensure the successful execution of the GC3's programs in support of its strategic plan to both strengthen the organization's impact and member value. This is a compelling opportunity for a collaborative professional to partner with GC3's Executive Director (ED) on executing and achieving growth targets in GC3's strategic plan. The Program Director will report to the Executive Director (ED) and manage high quality organizational programs to ensure coordination, strategic focus, and measurable impact, while managing program staff and consultants. They will also oversee successful implementation of the GC3's priority new initiatives, the Commercialization Hub and Executive Forum as well having the opportunity to demonstrate direct leadership of one priority project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Management: Manage project staff and consultants and ensure successful implementation of programs including the Commercialization Hub and Executive Forum. Direct at least one priority project and establish new programs to increase member value and organizational impact.
  • Member engagement and impact: Actively engage members in organizational programming to achieve measurable member and organizational impact.
  • Networking: Build strong connections and partnerships to advance programmatic goals with key stakeholders globally including with the UMass Lowell Sustainable Chemistry Accelerator
  • Thought leadership: Develop approach to stay abreast of key developments in green and sustainable chemistry, translate into programs, and communicate with GC3 staff and members
  • Enhance program delivery. Working closely with the Operations Manager, implement systems and processes to improve the efficiency, impact, and reach of GC3 programs.
  • External program communication. Work with the Operations Manager to communicate GC3's programmatic offerings to key stakeholders and potential members.
Relevant Experience
  • 5-10 years of program management experience in the green and sustainable chemistry space and technical background/knowledge
  • A thought leader in green chemistry in their own right or emerging into one
  • Experience in developing programs to measure program impact
  • Experience managing and working with diverse program staff and ability to understand levers that can make a stronger business case for change along the value chain and value proposition for members
