Eunice Heath

EUNICE HEATH

Global Director, Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability
The Dow Chemical Company

Eunice Heath is the Global Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability Director for Consumer Solutions. In this role, Heath drives product safety, stewardship and sustainability leadership for Consumer Solutions. Additionally, Heath is responsible for defining and implementing the business portfolio environment, health, safety and sustainability strategy and leading the sustainable products marketing strategy to ensure innovation investments meet customers' current and emerging sustainability needs. Heath also drives industry regulations advocacy through partnerships with external organizations, governments, customers and industry partners.

Heath joined Dow in 1991 as part of the Commercial Development Program and has worked in a myriad of Marketing, Sales and Supply Chain roles, including positions as global business director for POLYOX™ Water Soluble Resins in 2002, Marketing & Sales director for Dow Wolff Cellulosics in 2007, general manager of Home & Personal Care in 2009 and senior director of Northeast Government Affairs and Corporate Citizenship, STEM Education in early 2012. Heath assumed a role in corporate sustainability in 2013 which included responsibilities for Dow 2025 circular economy implementation and liaison to external organizations such as The Sustainability Consortium, Green Chemistry Commerce Council and American Chemistry Council Value Chain and Retail Committees. She was named to her current role in November 2016.

Søren holds the position as Senior Director of Technology, in the Sustainable Materials organization. The LEGO Group is family-owned and privately held.

Søren joined the LEGO Group in 1988. Materials have been the focal point the positions he has held within R&D, Quality, Procurement, Product Development, and now Sustainable Materials. Being Senior Director of Technology, Søren is responsible for the materials platform used for LEGO products and identification of potential materials to be introduced. In the transition towards a sustainable materials platform, Søren sets direction for material requirements and related analytical methods in order to secure a fit to products and production processes. The extensive experience and deep expertise is the basis for his role of internal capability building and in the selection innovation partners.

TAMMY AYERS

Steelcase Inc.

Tammy Ayers is the Manager, Global Sustainable Design & Development as part of the Global Sustainability team at Steelcase Inc. In this role, Tammy leads a cross-company effort to ensure the company achieves its global sustainability goals, with an emphasis on eco-design principle integration, understanding the materials used and the lifecycle implications in product development and production. Tammy joined the Steelcase family of companies in 1995. Her career has encompassed diverse roles in finance, SAP development and integration, curriculum design and development, and management strategies for understanding the human and environmental impacts of product and process materials. Tammy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Leadership from Davenport University, certification for Lean Manufacturing from the University Of Michigan College Of Engineering, Essentials of Green Chemistry from UC Berkeley and is a Certified Performance Technologist issued by the International Society of Performance Improvement. She serves on the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council Advisory Board, the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment Board, is the executive co-chair of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institutes Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and a committee member of the Sustainable Chemistry Alliance coalition. She and her team were honored with the 2014 Green Chemistry & Commerce Council’s Champions award, she was a 2015 recipient of WMEAC’s Women of Inspiration award and is a volunteer and speaker with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. 

Monica Becker

Monica is the Director of Collaborative Innovation for the GC3 and leads the GC3's work on plasticizers, preservatives, chemical data and created the GC3's Startup Network and Technology Showcase. Monica was the Principal of Monica Becker & Associates Sustainability Consultants, a multi-disciplinary provider of sustainability solutions for business, trade groups, universities, governments and NGOs. Monica held management positions at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability, the Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction and Tellus Institutes, and Eka Chemicals (now AkzoNobel). Monica has masters’ degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Technology & Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

ANNIE BEVAN

Annie Bevan is a sustainability professional with over 10 years of experience working with organizations to develop processes, procedures, and standards to analyze and certify various sustainability claims in products, supply chains, buildings, and within manufacturing operations. She is widely regarded in the industry as an expert in sustainability program development, corporate social responsibility and third-party verification. In her role as the Global Head of Sustainability, she oversees Superior Essex market leading sustainability program, working to collaborate and accelerate their sustainability platform through engagement with both customers and suppliers. She is driven by a passion to create positive change through collaboration and is inspired by the interconnectivity of all things in both nature and business.

In addition to her work at Superior Essex, she sits as a technical advisor and collaborator with: the US Green Building Council’s Materials and Resources TAG for the LEED rating system, the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), my green lab, the Department of Defense, the General Services Administration, Clean Production Action and the GreenScreen Program, the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council, and the Collaborative for High Performing Schools, among other programs and efforts. 

AMY CANNON

Beyond Benign 

Amy holds the world’s first Ph.D. in Green Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Boston where her research involved the environmentally benign synthesis of photoactive materials. She is the co-founder and executive director of Beyond Benign, a non-profit organization dedicated to green chemistry education. She received her M.S. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Boston and her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. Amy worked as an Assistant Professor of Green Chemistry and Director of Outreach and Community Education at the Center for Green Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Lowell until September of 2007 when she left to co-found Beyond Benign.

Amy has industrial experience working as an analytical chemist for the Gillette Company and as a scientist for Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials. She was awarded the Kenneth G. Hancock Memorial Award in Green Chemistry in 2004 for her work on titanium dioxide semiconductors and their application in dye-sensitized solar cells. Amy was awarded the 2012 EPA New England Environmental Merit award for her leadership and work on green chemistry education. Amy is passionate about transforming the general public’s relationship with chemistry. She focuses on chemistry education to better prepare students and scientists to enter the workforce trained with the skills to create sustainable materials and products. Through Beyond Benign, she leads many educational initiatives to bring together multiple stakeholders around this common goal.

Chris Cassell

Chris Cassell was named director of corporate sustainability in January 2017 and is responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies across the organization.  Chris joined Lowe’s in 2011 and has more than 17 years’ experience in strategy, program management, and process design. Prior to Lowe’s, Chris held positions with Accenture and North Highland.  Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from George Washington University and a master’s degree in international business from the University of South Carolina.

Amanda Cattermole

AMANDA CATTERMOLE

Sustainability and Chemical Management Consultant
Cattermole Consulting

Amanda Cattermole leads Cattermole Consulting, a consultancy that helps organisations develop chemical management, circular and sustainability strategies that result in safer products made in cleaner supply chains.

Through her work, education and experience, she has significant expertise about hazardous chemicals and how they are used in textile and leather manufacturing.

At LS&Co., she developed the first iteration of Levi Screened Chemistry, a program that enabled LS&Co. to use safer chemistry.  The company uses chemical formulations whose ingredients are assessed by hazard-based tools such as GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals and EPA Safer Choice. Screened Chemistry is expanding rapidly, and is now being widely adopted in the apparel industry.

She works with a variety of stakeholders including NGO’s, trade associations, governments, fortune 500 companies, small mission based brands, foundations and consultancies.

Amanda serves on the board of the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry at the University of California Berkeley and has a Bachelor's degree in Colour Chemistry from Leeds University and a Masters degree in Textile Chemistry from UC Davis.

Jason Clark

Materials Lead – Open Innovation, Renewable Chemicals & Materials

I have 14 years of experience in the chemicals and materials industry, beginning with Total as a research engineer and later the supervisor of the polymer pilot plants. I then transitioned to a product development role, developing pipe and injection molding grades. Next I was offered an opportunity to develop a polymer recycling technology and lead the pilot plant design in an attempt to bring the technology out of the lab and to continuous operation. Subsequently, I was asked to build a bridge between R&D and manufacturing by moving into a polypropylene process engineering role. I simultaneously completed a PhD in polymer physics and then returned to R&D with Braskem, bringing my experience from lab to industrial scale. After helping to develop Braskem’s Innovation & Technology strategy I was invited to join the effort to create an Open Innovation team for Renewable Chemicals & Materials in our Cambridge, MA office.

Sally Edwards

SALLY EDWARDS

Dr. Sally Edwards has many years of experience in engaging a wide range of stakeholders to promote the environmental health of communities and develop safer and greener products. She is a senior research associate at the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  She facilitates the work of the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council’s Retailer Leadership Council, whose mission is to promote safer chemicals, materials and products across retail supply and value chains.  Sally is a co-founder of the Chemical Footprint Project, which is designed to benchmark companies and recognize corporate leadership in the use of safer chemicals. Sally holds an MS in Environmental Health Science from Harvard University and a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. She completed her doctorate in Work Environment at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her book, Beyond Child’s Play: Sustainable Product Design in the Global Doll-Making Industry, was published in 2009. 

Paul Ellis

Paul has a vast and varied experience within the Retail Industry, in food, general merchandise and DIY , progressing through the business into his current role as “Head of Sustainable Chemicals Management” at  Kingfisher Plc, parent company to brands , B&Q, Castorama, Brico Depot and Screwfix all DIY business not unlike Lowes or Home Depot

He is passionate about chemistry, although does not hold any formal qualifications, but has educated himself in the last 10 years as a recognised REACh expert in Europe and sits on the ECHA expert group representing European Retailers

Paul is leading on the Kingfisher target of phasing out all substances Kingfisher has defined hazardous and either found in the supply chain at the factory level, found in the final product or is damaging to the environment, by 2025. Kingfisher is also looking to introduce 5 new Green Chemicals by 2025.

Paul sees transparency within the supply chain as a critical issue that needs to be addressed collectively and would like to see further engagement with achieving transparency across all supply chains.

TESS FENNELLY

Tess Fennelly co-founded REMOOBLE in 2017. The focus of the remooble team is to bring products direct to the consumer based on safe and sustainable chemistry. The remooble products work fast to remove ink, adhesive, paint and polymers and give consumer confidence they are bringing safe products into their homes and workplace. Tess brings a strong background in green chemistry and commercialization to her work. She was instrumental in commercializing green raw materials at two start-ups: GFBiochemicals and Segetis. Tess began her career in sales and learned different facets of the chemical industry at industry giants like Stauffer, Air Products & Chemicals and American Cyanamid (now Cytec/Solvay) with roles in business and market development, strategic planning and mergers & acquisitions. She consulted for many industry leaders when successfully running her own consulting firm for 10+ years. Her extensive background in traditional and sustainable chemistry includes adhesives, coatings, plastics, specialty fibers and specialty chemicals in many industries ranging from transportation to personal care. She is an advisor to the GC3, GreenBlue and several other organizations. Tess has a B.S. in Chemistry from Purdue and an MBA from Lehigh University.

Jad Finck leads Innovation & Sustainability at Allbirds, the San Francisco-based footwear brand. We are dedicated to making the most sustainable footwear we can using premium natural materials, designed for the to and fro of everyday life. With funding from both the leading venture capitalists in consumer products and the founding CEOs of some of the greatest e-commerce businesses in recent history, our desire to shake up the shoe industry is off to a great start. In fact, TIME called our first shoe, the Wool Runners, the most comfortable in the world.

As one of the earliest team members at Allbirds, Jad focuses on scouting, developing, and deploying exciting and sustainable materials and manufacturing processes for the company’s products of tomorrow, as well as continuous improvement of Allbirds’ existing product portfolio. Prior to Allbirds, Jad commercialized first-of-a-kind renewable materials while at Solazyme and invested in bioenergy pioneers at Chevron Tech Ventures. Jad has a mechanical engineering degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business.

Al Iannuzzi

Al Iannuzzi is Vice President of Sustainability for Estee Lauder Companies and is Adjunct Professor at Indiana University, where he teaches Product Improvement and Sustainability.  He has over 30 years’ experience in the Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability field.  Prior to his tenure at Estee Lauder, he worked for Johnson & Johnson where he led Design for the Environment and Green Marketing programs and developed sustainability strategies for Consumer Product, Medical Device and Pharmaceutical sectors.  He was also the chief architect of the Earthwards® greener product development program. 

Al has also worked as an environmental consultant and regulator for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.  He has authored 3 books, his latest, Greener Products: the Making & Marketing of Sustainable Brands (2018), and has authored numerous articles on sustainability and product stewardship.  

MICHELE JALBERT

Michele Jalbert oversees all aspects of GC3 operations, developing strategies and creating effective systems to support the diverse initiatives undertaken by GC3 members, staff and collaborating partners. Previously, she served as Chief of Staff and General Counsel for the New England Council, the nation’s oldest regional business association; Chief Operating Officer for the Renewable Chemicals & Materials Alliance and Director of Congressman Bill Delahunt’s Washington, DC office. Prior to her work on Capitol Hill, Michele led communications, human resources and employee relations departments for international companies such as Liberty Mutual and Polaroid Corporation. She graduated from Bates College, Suffolk University Law School and Northwestern University’s Kellogg Management Institute program.

 

CHRIS KILLIAN

Dr. Chris Killian is Vice President for Technology. His areas of current responsibility include the following technology and business areas: Coatings, Tire Additives, Adhesives, Animal Nutrition, Care Chemicals, Crop Protection, Specialty Fluids and Energy, Chemical Intermediates, Corporate Applications R&D, Scale-Up & Process Innovation. Prior to this position he served as VP for Specialty Products Technology and VP for Advanced Materials Technology.

He holds a B.S. degree in chemistry from University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in organic chemistry from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC).

Chris joined Eastman in 1996 as a research chemist. During his career at Eastman, he held various positions in technology and the business. These positions included Technology Manager, Director Polymers Technology, Director of the Tritan™ Growth Platform, Director Coatings & Adhesives Technology.

Greg Morose

Greg Morose is a Research Manager for the Toxics Use Reduction Institute and a Research Professor for the College of Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  Greg works with various industries to address the use of toxic chemicals throughout the supply chain. Greg has conducted comprehensive investigations of safer chemical alternatives to products using mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, phthalates, radioactive materials, toluene, methylene chloride, methanol, and brominated flame retardants. Greg has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's of Science degree in Environmental Studies, a Master's of Business Administration degree, and a Doctoral degree in Cleaner Production and Pollution Prevention. Greg is also an ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

MARTY MULVIHILL

Marty Mulvihill is the co-founder and a managing partner in Safer Made, a mission-driven venture capital fund investing companies and technologies that reduce human exposure to harmful chemicals. Marty is also a researcher and advisor at the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry, which he helped create and where he served as the initial Executive Director from 2010-2015.

Marty Mulvihill received his Ph.D. in 2009 from the University of California, Berkeley in Chemistry and Nanoscience. Marty’s research and work have focused on developing technologies that help provide access to clean drinking water and the creation of safer chemicals and materials based on biological feedstocks. He has a number of publications and patents related to the detection of arsenic in drinking water, and he has developed safer chemicals and materials for the personal care, construction, electronics, and textile industries.

MIKE PATEL

In his current role Mike is responsible for the overall management of strategic and market planning activities for the Vinyl Division of Teknor Apex Company.

He joined Teknor Apex in 2004 as Industry Manager – Wire & Cable after working for The Ruggles Group, a materials consultancy. Prior to that, he held various general, business and operations management positions at Madison Cable Corp., having started his career at Essex International in engineering and technical management.

Mike holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bombay, a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Mike is active in industry organizations being on the Operating Committee of the Vinyl Institute, BoD of IWCS and participating in Flexible Vinyl Alliance, NEMA and NFPA. He is a member of UL STP 13 and 758; is the holder of a cable patent and has published articles in industry trade journals.

SERENA POZZA

Serena is DSM-Niaga’s Lead for Healthy & Circular Materials, where she ensures that ingredients used in Niaga’s redesigned products are as benign as possible for human health and the environment. Serena is also co-leading a Niaga start-up experiment in San Francisco that delivers healthy & circular home furnishing products to consumers, while raising awareness about environmental health issues. Serena holds an MBA and Industrial Ecology Degree from Yale University, where she received training in Green Chemistry & Design, Toxicology, and Systems Thinking. Serena serves as Alumni Board Member for Educational Programs at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and is a former Schmidt-MacArthur Fellow. Prior to DSM-Niaga, Serena worked at Unilever, McKinsey, The World Economic Forum, and the European Commission.

Dhruv Raina

Dhruv is passionate about responsible business growth. He does that by combining business strategy, product design, and social science to determine where to play and then execute to win. At Tarkett, Dhruv develops sustainability strategy, goals, policies, and programs with emphasis on tactical execution.

Prior to joining Tarkett, Dhruv led the sustainability efforts for Owens Corning where he was instrumental in aligning sustainability efforts to the growth of the business. He was also responsible to set in place a Net Positive roadmap for the company. Prior to Owens Corning, Dhruv was a management consultant and has experience working across geographies for startups, NGOs & Fortune 100 businesses, focusing on driving competitive advantage, enabling business growth.

Dhruv earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Mumbai, his M.S. degree in environmental engineering from University of Texas at El Paso, and his M.B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

RACHEL SIMON

Rachel works with GC3 brands, formulators, and chemical manufacturers to help enable the identification and implementation of green chemistry solutions along the value chain. She also serves as a senior research associate at the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production, working on advancing alternatives assessment as a strategy to mainstream green chemistry and manages the Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment (A4), a professional society dedicated to promoting development in the fields of alternatives assessment and informed substitution. Rachel holds a MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, where she also worked with industries as a sustainable engineering researcher, focusing on the environmental and human health impacts of materials and techniques to integrate chemical hazard assessment data into Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Pamela Spencer

Dr. Pamela Spencer is the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs & Product Stewardship at ANGUS Chemical, in Chicago, IL. Prior to this role, she worked for the Dow Chemical Company for 30 years, retiring as the Scientific Director of Dow’s Toxicology Environmental Research & Consulting function.  She received her doctorate from the Department of Toxicology, School of Public Health, University of Michigan. She has extensive experience in regulatory toxicity testing and research to define human health risks, with numerous publications to date in the areas of neurotoxicology, genetic toxicology, carcinogenicity and green chemistry.

Dr. Spencer is involved in several scientific service activities that include: appointment to National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods, appointment to the Board of Trustees for the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute, and Vice President Society of Toxicology In Vitro and Alternative Methods Specialty section. 

GREG STILLMAN

Greg is a scientifically-driven, innovation-hungry, mind working to help solve tough environmental problems through technology development and commercialization. Having recently completed an MBA & MS degree from Stanford University, he is now helping to build the world's premier clean-textile and circular-fashion accelerator with Plug and Play | Fashion for Good in Amsterdam. Originally trained as a chemist, Greg was fortunate to start his career at the U.S. Department of Energy as an R&D manager in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Today, he is excited about the opportunity for the textile industry to thoughtfully modernize and reduce impacts while remaining the creative outlet we all love.

Joel Tickner

Dr. Joel Tickner is a Professor of Public Health  at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He is founder and Executive Director of the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3); Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment (A4), a new professional association; and Co-Director of the Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI).  He is a leading expert on application of green chemistry and alternatives assessment in science and policy. He has served on a number of EPA and National Academy of Sciences advisory committees and advises government agencies around the world. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a Doctor of Science Degree from the Department of Work Environment at University of Massachusetts Lowell.

FRANÇOIS (FRANK) TROPPER

Frank is Sr. Director-Global Programs at NineSigma, a leading innovation services company helping clients solve technical needs, secure new technologies and partners through Open Innovation. NineSigma has executed over 5,000 OI projects across all disciplines helping award nearly $100M in prizes and contracts to Solution Providers.

Educated as a chemist (Ottawa, Berkeley and Stanford), Frank has published and patented extensively. Beginning as Principle Investigator at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, he transitioned to the private sector leading the medicinal chemistry department at GlycoDesign from startup drug discovery to publicly traded company. Frank was also founding inventor of Targesome, Sr. Director of Clinical Research for Ganeden Biotech, and technical consultant for companies, government agencies and venture capital firms assessing new technology opportunities.

Throughout his R&D career, Frank has always valued and leveraged external collaborations. Progressing to NineSigma to help others do the same was a natural fit where he has developed core processes and best practices into successful service models.

Frank is an avid curler with a passion for fishing in remote lakes and streams. He’s based in Cleveland where he and his wife, an accomplished neurosurgeon, raise three children. 

Emily Williams

Global Growth Platform Leader for Circular Economy

Emily is the Global Growth Platform Leader for Circular Economy in the Printing and Packaging group at Michelman. In her four years there she has been focused on sustainable solutions and compostable coatings. In that time she has become an active member of the ASTM committee for compostable plastics, the Food Service Packaging Institute with the Paper Recovery Alliance and Plastics Recovery Group, and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. She has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University and an M.S. in the same from the University of Cincinnati.
